Conference Information

Extensive planning and preparation has gone into crafting this major technical assistance and training forum.  As in the past, HRSA reviewed feedback from prior meetings in planning this year’s program.

The 2010 Ryan White Grantee Meeting and 13th Annual Clinical Conference will be held in Washington, DC from August 23-26, 2010 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

The conference will focus on identifying strategies that have been developed over the past 20 years of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program to improve systems of HIV/AIDS care and increase grantee knowledge of program and fiscal requirements under the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act of 2009.  Over 2,500 grantee representatives are expected to attend including direct care providers, program/fiscal administrators, members of planning councils or board members, consumers, and Federal staff.

This year’s theme, Twenty Years of Leadership – A Legacy of Care, recognizes the leadership, dedication, and effort that has gone into implementing the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program since its inception in 1990.  We have seen much change over the past 20 years, but there has been one constant; the work we do has a tremendous impact on the lives of over half a million people each year due to the creativity and adaptability of the Ryan White Community.

Conference Format

Once again, we will present two meetings in one: the Grantee Meeting and the Clinical Conference. The Clinical Conference is designed for HIV/AIDS prescribers. Continuing Education credits are being offered for the Grantee Meeting. This Continuing Medical Education (CME) program is sponsored by the International AIDS Society - USA (IAS-USA).

Following are key features of the conference:

  • The Grantee Meeting will include over 180 workshops and more than 120 poster sessions.  Separate sessions are being planned for the Clinical Conference.
  • Three plenary sessions will feature national speakers and leaders in the field of HIV/AIDS care.  The opening plenary session will review and celebrate our accomplishments and provide us with a special update on clinical treatment.  On day two, we will celebrate our colleagues in the awards plenary.
  • An Exhibit Hall will give you a chance to meet with agencies that focus on supporting HIV/AIDS care providers.

Throughout the meeting you will have opportunities to network, visit the exhibit hall, participate in poster sessions, and share insights with your peers.

Getting Ready: Sharing Concrete Ideas

Over the coming months, HRSA staff will be working intensively with the Ryan White Community to plan workshops and poster sessions for the conference, which is designed to serve as a major technical assistance and training forum for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.  These sessions are the heart of the meeting, where learning and information exchange takes place as we share lessons learned to enhance HIV care for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Conference Goals and Meeting Tracks

During this conference, successful HIV care techniques will be shared, which have been developed and refined as a result of decades of work.  The seven meeting tracks are: Access and Retention; Quality/Evaluation/Data; Program/Agency Development; Coordination and Linkages; Administrative and Fiscal Management; Cultural Competency; and the Prevention/Care Continuum.  These seven tracks will be the foundation for nearly 200 workshops and more than 120 posters that will be planned by grantees, HRSA/HAB staff, and our Federal partners.

Conference Goals

  • Identify strategies to improve systems of care for PLWHA.
  • Increase grantees' knowledge of programmatic and administrative requirements.
  • Enable grantees to share models of care.
  • Encourage collaboration and networking among grantees
